When WAPA makes you mad…..

……..make money on Amazon!! At least that’s what people today are doing when WAPA shuts off the power, yet AGAIN and makes Virgin Islands mad.

By now, I know most of you have seen these shirts floating around on social media. At first, I thought it was a joke and not a ‘real’ link that you could click on and order a shirt, but turns out I was wrong. Someone was mad enough at WAPA to create several shirts with angry words for WAPA. They have even gone as far as offering the shirts in multiple colors, styles, and sizes. See some of the actual product offerings below.

No Power. No Problem.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I remember my days back home; waking up to no power, coming home to no power, getting my favorite shows cut short because the power turned off. And all not because the bill wasn’t paid, but because it was another island-wide outage out of anyone’s control.

I guess back in our day we weren’t as mad about it because we had options. You could go outside and hang out with friends. People weren’t glued to tablets or phones all day long. And then I’d been through months without power post-Marilyn, so once in a while was not as big a deal.

But today, people get mad enough to go viral and make some money in the process. How the world has changed.

I commend whoever was clever enough to think this up and put it into immediate action. That’s an entrepreneur who knows how to turn a negative into a positive.

Now I wonder if WAPA got the message and is going to do anything to change the narrative, or if things will remain unchanged. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. But as for me, I’ll return to my air conditioned living space as I try to keep cool from the sweltering 90 degrees heat outside. There are still some things about island life that I do not miss……..
